Killdeer & Dunn County
The service trucks roll out of Killdeer
Killdeer is the main shop — four bays, the parts room, and the service trucks that leave it to come to your unit. If it will not roll, we load up and drive to it.

Where the trucks come from
Killdeer is the yard, not a branch
The main shop. Four bays, the parts room and the service trucks all run out of here.
That matters when you are the one sitting on the shoulder. The truck that comes to you is loaded here, by the people who work on your unit when it comes into the bay — so the drive out to Dunn Center, Manning, Halliday or Grassy Butte is a short one, not a trip from the other side of the state.

“Customer service from the owner is top notch! Service rates are better than any other diesel shop. I've used them on the side of the road for an alternator and belt issue and been at their shop after blowing an airbag at night. 24/7 operation and fast service, even late at night!”
Why the phone rings
What we get called out for
Winter is the busy season for this out here. Seven things account for most of the calls that put a truck on the road out of Killdeer.
01
Winter no-starts and gelled fuel
Thirty below and it will not light. Gelled fuel and a dead battery in January is a different job than the same fault in July, and the truck is loaded for it.
02
Blown airbags and suspension failures
The unit is sitting down on one corner and it is not going any further on its own.
03
Alternator, belt and charging faults
Lights dimming, gauges dropping, and you are watching the battery run down mile by mile.
04
Air leaks and brake problems
It will not build air, or it will not release. Tell us what the gauges are doing when you call.
05
Overheating and coolant loss
Temperature climbing, coolant on the ground, and nowhere sensible to put it.
06
Water and vacuum trailer trouble
Oilfield trailers break out on the lease, not in town. That is normal work here, not a favor.
07
Anything that stopped the load
If it has quit and you are not sure what it is, describe it on the phone and we will work it out from there.
Not on this list? It still gets a phone call. Describe the symptom and we will tell you straight whether it can be fixed where it sits or whether it needs a bay.

What to have ready when you call
Four things get the truck moving sooner, and they are all things you already know sitting in the cab.
- Where the unit is — mile marker, lease road, county road or a pin off your phone
- What it is doing now, and what it was doing right before it quit
- What the unit is: truck, trailer, water trailer, equipment or motorhome
- A number we can call you straight back on
In their words
People we went out to
“Dewayne is great and honest mechanic, they have the best service truck in the state, he's saved me at 2am in -20 before when he was 2.5 hours away. He's very knowledgeable not just about semis but about working in the oilfield, he has his own trucks and knows the right way to fix water trailers and make things work.”
“I appreciate HD Diesel for helping get me home this weekend. Very friendly, fair price, and even came to me for the service.”
Will you come out to the truck?
Yes. We run our own service trucks and we do emergency call-outs — that is a large part of what we do out here. Call, tell us where the unit is and what it is doing, and we will tell you straight away whether it can be fixed where it sits or whether it needs to come in.
Do you answer after hours?
Yes. The shop runs eight to six on weekdays and eight to five on the weekend, but a truck does not only break during business hours. Call the shop number and it gets to us — customers have had us out at two in the morning at twenty below.
Tell us where the unit is
One phone call to the Killdeer shop is the whole process. No form, no portal — you talk to the people who are going to work on it.
