HD DieselRepair Shop

About

A diesel shop, run by diesel people

No service writer between you and the mechanic. You talk to the person who is going to put hands on your truck.

HD Diesel started in Killdeer — a shop on the edge of town with four doors, a dirt lot and a phone that people out in the country had learned to call.

HD Diesel LLC has been a registered North Dakota company since 2021, and Sunrise Diesel LLC since 2023. Between them they now run three shops — HD Diesel in Killdeer and Williston, Sunrise Diesel in Dickinson. It grew the way shops out here grow — somebody got helped out of a bad spot, told somebody else, and it went from there.

The work is heavy diesel: semis and trailers, oilfield water and vacuum units, farm trucks, equipment, and the odd diesel motorhome that limped in off the highway. Engines come apart in our own bays. Clutches get set up here. And when a unit is too far gone to drive in, one of our own service trucks goes out to it.

We are not the cheapest phone call you can make and we do not pretend to be. What we are is straight with you: what is wrong, what it takes to fix, what it is going to run, and whether it is worth doing at all on a truck that age.

“Full service diesel mechanic in Killdeer, ND. We welcome walk-ins, and also do emergency call outs.”— how the shop describes itself, in its own words

The Killdeer shop with a bay door up, a chrome semi tractor inside and tires stacked against the wall outside
A Caterpillar diesel engine out of the chassis on a stand, part-way through a rebuild
Clutch, flywheel and hub laid out on plywood during a clutch job

Four things you can count on

A straight diagnosis

You get told what it actually is, including when the honest answer is that it isn't worth fixing.

A real timeline

If the part is three days out we say three days. Nobody gets strung along on a promise we can't keep.

Somebody who will come out

Our own service trucks, out of whichever shop is closest to where you are sitting.

The work done here

Engines, clutches, drivelines — in our bays, by our people, not shipped to a dealer.

Around the shop

  • The Killdeer shop with a bay door up and a chrome semi tractor inside, tires stacked outside and an HD pickup at the right
  • A red semi tractor apart in the bay, wheels and components on the floor, another unit in the bay behind
  • A Caterpillar diesel engine out of the chassis and mounted on a stand on the lot, a technician working behind it
  • Clutch, flywheel and hub laid out on plywood during a clutch job
  • An International truck lettered HD Diesel Repair Shop parked inside the bay
  • Heavy truck drive tires photographed close up mid-service
  • A Class A diesel motorhome parked in the snow beside the shop
  • Three pickups lettered HD parked along the shop wall under a wide blue North Dakota sky
  • The HD service truck, lettered with the shop number, out on a customer yard with grain bins behind
  • A tank trailer on the lot in front of the shop

Come by any of the three

Walk-ins are welcome at all of them. If it is a big job, a call ahead means we can have a bay open and the parts ordered before you arrive.
